What personal qualities do you have that contribute to your ability to develop relationships? 3. How might you know if your capacity to work and thus your competence as a therapist was impaired? SUMMARY This chapter has considered the use of skills in the therapeutic relationship, in particular a range of skills that are used broadly across most therapeutic modalities (with greater and less emphasis in some, than others). In doing so we have considered short dialogic vignettes to illustrate those skills 'in action'. However, it is difficult to look at skills in isolation, without also considering therapist qualities and competencies. Further Resources Culley, S. and Bond, T.
